Style and Grace
A lot has been written lately about how we are losing an element of style and grace in our culture and in our fashion. I blame a great deal of it on the advent of reality television. We were suddenly watching families squabble and people talking about remarkably personal things and then of course we made celebrities of these people. Women who were simply famous for making sex tapes were role models. Men who were drunken fools got endorsement deals. Call me crazy but I longed for the days when Madonna singing “Like a Virgin” was shocking. With this slide, we’ve also seen a remarkable turn in ugly, cheaply made (although not usually cheap to buy) clothing that leaves little to the imagination and sets no real standard.
That said, I do think there is hope. There are a lot of big brands–think Chanel, Louis Vuitton and more who think that style and class never go out of style and certainly don’t go out of fashion.
One of the things I’ve tried to do with Island Contessa is give it a sense of timeless beauty. I draw on the glorious views of explosions of color that surround me every day. Classically made, timeless styles, quality fabrics–all are elements of what I’m building with this brand. If you haven’t shopped Island Contessa™ lately, I invite you to do so. You may pay a bit more but you’ll be glad you made the investment. You’ll also be glad to wear a garment that makes you feel a bit royal.
Happy Tuesday,
Lori
