Paris and Fashion
I remember when my husband and I took a cruise down the Seine in Paris several years ago. It was pretty cold and rainy and the plastic windows that rolled down on the side of the boat made it difficult to see outside. That is, until we rounded a corner and there the Tour Eiffel stood in all her glory. Lights and beauty with just the right amount of glitz. That pretty much sums up Paris and whatever those of us in fashion that don’t live in Paris may think; Paris created fashion. It is a city that pulses art and has always worn its heart on its sleeve.
I had something else in mind for this week’s blog but then November 13th happened in Paris. What happened last week in Paris was not just tragic for Parisians, it was tragic for all of us. I have always had a soft spot for Paris from the time I was 20 and stood on the Champs Elysees for the first time. The people, the food, the art, the culture makes Paris a city like no other. It is amazing, pure and simple. This week, this day for this designer, I want to acknowledge my cultured friends across the ocean in their time of grief and distress. I know, as they have always done, they will rebound. But just for today, I want to thank them for all they have done for the world and let them know Je suis Paris!
